Realtime analytics optimise production performance

February 2004 SCADA/HMI Products & Solutions

CitectIIM solutions enable managers to optimise production efficiency by analysing and presenting realtime information in a business context throughout the enterprise. This non-invasive, low-risk, modular approach makes good use of open technologies and complements existing systems to provide a fast return on investment (ROI).

CitectIIM Metrics is a dynamic business intelligence solution for manufacturing which enables production managers to measure key performance indicators (KPIs), consistently on an enterprise-wide basis. KPIs such as OEE, yield, efficiency and so on are delivered to relevant management personnel via a web-based dashboard display, in a context relevant to each individual user. Multiple dashboards are accessed through an explorer tree, allowing management to access KPIs relevant to each layer of their business, from business units, to plants, to individual production lines. KPIs are updated dynamically in realtime, providing performance unheralded in traditional Business Intelligence offerings, allowing faster, more accurate decision-making for business advantage.

CitectIIM Tracking is a powerful solution for tracking and tracing product genealogy from suppliers to consumers. Focused strongly on regulatory industries such as food and beverage and pharmaceuticals, it is also applicable to any manufacturer with strict product compliance requirements such as aluminium, automotive and aerospace suppliers. CitectIIM Tracking has been designed to satisfy the stringent requirements of the European Commissions Food Safety requirements, providing both trace-up and trace-down facilities through a powerful web-based analytics client that integrates seamlessly with the remainder of the CitectIIM Suite.

The CitectIIM Suite has been deployed at Impala Platinum Holdings, (Implats) BMR plant in South Africa, with the metrics and tracking modules, being used in conjunction with production, quality and downtime modules to provide a comprehensive view of all aspects of its production facility. Based on the successful deployment, a further two modules, cost and maintenance, are now being piloted at the BMR plant.

"Citect has performed extremely well over the past nine months in implementing the IIM modules," said Tim Spandiel, plant manager, Implats BMR. "The system will give management a clear picture on production performance throughout the plant, by aggregating data from various systems and presenting them with an analysed, easy-to-understand snapshot."

"Implats supplies approximately 25% of the world's total platinum production, and the continuous improvement opportunities that the CitectIIM Suite delivers will ensure that its operations continue to be streamlined, efficient and competitive," said Wayne Morris, managing director and CEO, Citect.
