Southern African Scada Conference 2004

January 2004 News

Presented by IDC Technologies, this conference will be run at the Eskom Convention Centre, Johannesburg, on 10-11 March 2004. Papers will be presented discussing applications of scada, industrial communications, protocols, integration of scada with business systems, software and hardware issues, scada security, risk management and future developments.

The Program scada has traditionally meant a window into the process of a plant or gathering of data from devices in the field, but now the focus is on integrating this process data into the actual business and using it in realtime. The emphasis today is on using open standards such as communication protocols (eg, DNP3 and TCP/IP) and off the shelf hardware and software to keep the costs down. This two day forum will cover a selection of case studies and examples of real world working scada systems in the mining, water, electrical and processing industries and will be an excellent opportunity to network with your peers as well as gain significant new information and techniques for your next scada project.

Two half-day pre-forum workshops - 9 March 2004

* The nuts and bolts of scada communications.

* Industrial network security for your automation, process control and scada systems.

These two workshops will set the tone for the two-day conference.

Who should attend

The conference will provide information of interest to engineering managers, chief engineers, electrical and instrumentation engineers, plant engineers, automation engineers, scada and control engineers and technicians and anyone actively involved with implementing or optimising a scada system.

Those attending will hear case studies and practical applications of scada users who are directly responsible for their systems. There will be opportunities to network and talk to other experts in the industry on real practical problems and state of the art applications of the technologies. The emphasis of the conference will be on practical industry topics, case studies and the latest application of scada technologies.
