NewElec's EC earth insulation lockout relays are easily installed in flameproof enclosures and are suitable for use on both cables and motors starting DOL or star delta. Locally designed and manufactured, the EC package consists of the protection relay, an 11-pin plug-in base and a three-phase choke.
Compact in design, the relays are suitable for monitoring the insulation integrity of the protected motor windings and feeder cable cores to earth while the motor is standing. During operation, the main contactor will be prevented from closing into a circuit in which the insulation level to earth is below a certain permissible level. The selected lockout relay determines the minimum value of the insulation level, while the fused measuring circuit protects the relay against inadvertent damage due to incorrect connections.
Total isolation of the measuring circuit from the main supply during motor running mode is possible. However, the insulation integrity of the electric motor is monitored when stopped.
The relays are particularly useful where high condensation occurs in standby equipment, in coastal area applications and where motors are subjected to hosing down procedures. LEDs provide indication of healthy and faulty conditions.
