Short technical workshop courses

November 2003 Training & Education

IDC Technologies is running a series of its technical workshops in December. The courses on offer include:

Power distribution

A practical 2 day workshop on how to correctly select and install the right type of switchgear, power cables and power factor correction equipment as well as how to solve problems in a power network. (Johannesburg - 1 and 2 December 2003)

Shielding, EMC/EMI, noise reduction, earthing and PCB layout

How to identify, design, prevent and fix common EMC/EMI problems, with a focus on earthing and shielding. Learn the tools to approach earthing and shielding issues in a logical and systematic way. The circuit board layout section concentrates on useful design and systems issues, not merely about regulations and standards. (Johannesburg - 4 and 5 December 2003)

Industrial data communications and networking

How to design, specify and troubleshoot data communications systems in the instrumentation and control environments. This workshop gives you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of RS232, RS422, RS485, industrial protocols and industrial networks, enabling people to work in these areas with confidence. (Johannesburg - 8 and 9 December 2003)

Fieldbus and device networks

A 1-day workshop where you will follow on from the Data Communications workshop with the latest in fieldbus and device network systems. Learn about the advantages and disadvantages of each standard as well as how to design, specify and install the appropriate network for an application. (Johannesburg - 10 December 2003)

Variable speed drives for automation and control

This workshop offers a fundamental understanding of the installation, operation and troubleshooting of variable speed drives (VSDs). Typical practical applications of VSDs in process control and materials handling such as those for pumping, ventilation, conveyers, compressors and hoists are covered in detail. (Johannesburg - 11 and 12 December 2003)
