Flow Measurement & Control

Precision mass and multivariable flow measurement with Coriolis technology

October 2003 Flow Measurement & Control

Quantim provides precision mass flow measurement and integral control, on-line density and temperature measurement all in one compact package. The heart of the device in question is a Coriolis sensor design that can measure low flow, independent of the fluid type or process variables. This provides the client with performance in challenging operating environments. The Quantim sensor features no moving parts or obstructions in the flow path - and there are no special mounting or flow conditioning requirements.

Most critical processes require control as well as measurement, therefore the Quantim series offers an optional integrally mounted, in-line control valve. No remote electronics are required as all the transmitting and control electronics are contained within the product housing.

Supporting HART Communications Protocol Revision 5, the HART Communications protocol signal is superimposed on the 4-20 mA current output of the device - which allows Quantim to communicate with any suitable HART network system or a standard 275 HART handheld communicator.

Emerson Process Management believes that its PlantWeb architecture is taking field instrumentation to another level, as the Quantim is available to use all the benefits of AMS (asset nanagement solutions) as well as the HART protocol providing a high level of transparency of the controlling equipment.

Applications

Quantim can accurately measure and control low flow liquids for virtually any process fluid, independent of its characteristics. It has been designed for low flow applications in the demanding specialty chemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, fibre-optic, analytical lab, and OEM markets.

The series is well suited to precisely measure and control critical process fluids like food additives, TEOS, catalysts, hydrocarbons, inhibitors, nutrients, and many other difficult-to-handle liquids for low flow applications. Direct mass measurement is independent of fluid properties, or other process variables. Mass flow, volumetric flow, density and temperature are all available to the user from one single instrument. Its makers say that it is the most compact Coriolis sensor and controller on the market.

CE certified for EMC, ATEX, and PED (Pressure Equipment Directive). UL and ATEX certification includes installation in safe and hazardous areas; Class I, Class II, Zone 1 and Zone 2.

Most processes require measurement and control the Quantim product offers both by having the Coriolis sensor and all associated electronics, an integral in-line valve and full PID function in a single package.
