Technical training - a new venture for Keops Altech

September 2003 Training & Education Products & Solutions

August 2003 - Keops Altech, a member of the multibillion rand Johannesburg Securities Exchange listed Altech group of companies, recently identified a requirement in the market, both in terms of users and vendors, for a clearly defined understanding of 'best practice' in the manufacturing process.

In conjunction with an internationally recognised provider of technical training for engineers and technicians, Keops Altech consulting manager, Gerhard Greeff, developed an intensive two-day training programme and a comprehensive, fully illustrated reference manual. The workshop, already presented by Greeff in the United Kingdom and Ireland, focuses on the practical fundamentals of e-manufacturing, manufacturing execution systems (MES) and supply chain management.

Delegates are taught how to identify and model enterprise and business automation system hierarchies; use internationally recognised process and system design concepts; identify and design e-manufacturing and supply chain components; financially motivate projects and measure improvement after installation; manage software projects, system integration and software vendors; manage behavioural change during system implementation to reduce disruption; choose objectively between different software and technology providers; make sense of vendor marketing techniques and ploys; and differentiate between data summation/transformation/communication tools driving business processes within the plant.

Local wire manufacturer, Cape Gate, was the first South African company to commission Keops Altech for on site training of its employees. Management saw the value in creating alignment within the company by promoting a full comprehension of what MES and e-manufacturing is all about. The objective was to transform individual perceptions so that all employees would operate on the same wavelength to achieve 'best practice' for vendor independent system development and integration, now and in future. The workshop was successfully completed.
