The PROline Prosonic Flow family of ultrasonic clamp-on flowmeters for fixed type installations offers attractive solutions for permanent flow measurements. Instrumentation specialist Endress+Hauser has now also introduced a portable clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter for temporary measurements.
The PROline Prosonic Flow 92 portable ultrasonic flowmeter complements the Prosonic 90/93 range of ultrasonic flowmeters for permanent installation. The permanent range fulfils the requirements for wide industry applications, including continuous, accurate measurement, high availability and reliability, easy integration into different supervisory and control systems, easy commissioning and flexible power supply options.
The new portable ultrasonic flowmeter, PROline Prosonic Flow 92, is suited to water/wastewater and process applications, and allows for accurate measurement from the outside of almost any pipe material
The new portable transmitter is available with either the Prosonic Flow W or U clamp-on sensors. The Prosonic Flow W sensor is set for standard applications ranging from DN50 to 4000, while the U-sensor is designed for smaller diameter pipes ranging from DN15 to 100 - thereby covering most pipe sizes used in pipeline construction. Both sensors can also operate in process temperature ranging from -20 to +80°C.
The flowmeter, which works independently from a power supply, is suited to water/wastewater and process applications, where the liquid is either pure - with low conductivity - or slightly soiled with a gas content of less than 1% or a solids content of less than 5%. The clamp-on technology allows for accurate measurement from the outside of almost any pipe material including steel, plastic and glass pipes, ductile cast iron pipes lined with cement, and GRP pipes - with or without thermoplastic lining. This versatility enables unique possibilities that conventional, fixed flow measurement devices cannot offer.
The Prosonic Flow 92 and Prosonic Flow W and U sensors incorporate innovative design features such as the site set-up menu that provides the exact sensor spacing for installation, thereby minimising the risk of faulty commissioning and installation procedures. Both sensors also include physical installation aids. The W-sensor has a pre-punched spacing ruler that defines the exact mounting position of the sensor, while the U-sensor's mounting rail is an integral part of the sensor system.
The site set-up menu enables users to manage the data of up to 20 measurement sites simultaneously, fulfilling the requirement of repeated measurements at several sites. This data can be viewed on the transmitter's graphic user interface, as well as being recorded in the built-in data logger for processing later. Data logging and tracing capabilities extend to 40 000 measuring values.
The Prosonic Flow 92 transmitter, sensor assemblies and accessories are available in different product packages. All the components fit into a case for easy transport from site to site. If required, individual components can also be ordered.

Editor's Choice Flow Measurement & Control
There are many processes where it is undesirable for the load to suddenly change quickly, for example in the paper industry. Examples of level control have involved reasonably fast tuning. An example of a level loop tuned this way and responding to a step change in setpoint is given.
