Eight-fibre fibre-optic cable

Fibre-optic transmission techniques are increasingly being used in industrial environments. Possible applications range from the installation of temporary data networks to permanently installed, moving cables. But fibre-optic cables need special protection, particularly in rough environments. Only specially designed cable types and suitable materials can satisfy the stringent requirements involved.

Fibre-optic cables ensure trouble-free data transmission at high rates in rough environments in applications such as mobile communications, military, drag chain systems, hoisting installations, train and ship design or broadcasting.

The solutions offered, until recently, involved four-fibre field cables The eight-fibre field cables from Suhner Fibreoptic allow mobile systems to be realised which require more than four fibres. The field cable has been tested for numerous different types of stressing such as transverse loads and stressing in drag chain systems or when exposed to temperature changes.

A number of advantages distinguish these field cables. Besides being resistant when stepped upon, they can also be reeled. They can withstand a high number of flexing cycles. They are entirely free of metal and halogen and are resistant to mechanical and chemical influences of the environment. They are capable of absorbing high tensile forces and can be used across a wide temperature range and allow direct connector mounting.

The cables can be mounted directly in a cable termination box, be provided with a cable splitter or be used with lens connectors. For temporary mobile systems in harsh environments, a field-enabled connector - for example a lens connector - will ensure adequate protection of the fibre interfaces. A cable equipped with these connectors can be repeatedly wound on and off a stable reel.
