NewElec's MA range of low voltage motor protection relays provides control functions and motor protection across multidrop communication loops. The relays permit communication to PLC and scada systems via a DIN rail mounted Profibus communications module. Parameter settings may be done via a laptop computer in the field, or by the communications module after receiving the set parameters from the specific fieldbus.
Protection is provided against overloads, locked rotor, undercurrent, unbalanced current, single phasing and earth leakage conditions. The MA relays are also able to detect run-stall or jam situations and offer protection against winding over temperature as well as over/under voltage conditions. Four models are available covering motors with a full load current range from 1 to 250 A. The MA relays provide comprehensive motor protection with Type 2 co-ordination. Five field programmable digital inputs with independent 24 to 220 V a.c./d.c. auxiliary control supply and four relay outputs, two of which are programmable are included.
A trip fault record with the last four faults, time and date, stamped by the onboard RTC is available as diagnostic data, to assist maintenance personnel. Operational data such as motor running hours, number of starts and fault trip counts are provided as extended diagnostic data. LEDs indicate 'relay healthy', 'in service' and fault indication, and if required, most set parameters may be individually overridden.
