Heavy-duty start-stop pushbutton

Sole local distributor of the Cutler Hammer range, CHI Control, supply a 30,5 mm pushbutton that is designed for use in heavy-duty environments where corrosion resistance is required.

Pushbuttons are used in applications that require the start, stop, or change of a machine as well as wherever workers need to keep track of what stage the machine is at, explains Errol Smith, regional sales manager at CHI Control. "Within automobile plants, our range of pushbuttons set machines for varying operations to help workers make inspections, add parts, correct tools and route equipment. Modern production would be much more difficult without the use of pushbuttons."

Zinc die-cast bodies, one-piece gaskets, self-sealing operator housings and operator positioning nibs reduce the number of parts and installation adjustments required. "That means fewer parts have to be inventoried and less time spent during installation, which all adds up to lower costs," comments Smith. In extreme environments, CSA certified and UL listed 10250T pushbuttons - designed to meet the requirements of the automotive industry - are suitable.

A line of accessories ensures that unique applications do not require costly custom assemblies. Smith ascribes the drastic growth within the pushbutton market over the last few years, to increased automation. "Production automation is no longer a static process and more dependent on the human operator, than ever. Where previously a worker may have done no more than stop or start a machine, that person is now making decisions on the entire process to improve quality, increase productivity, or run tests. Indicating lights provide the information needed to make such decisions and the operator makes changes to the process by using selector switches and other pushbuttons. With pushbuttons of virtually every type, size, colour and function, Cutler-Hammer has made sure that everything from the automotive assembly lines to the most sophisticated military equipment starts, stops and runs smoothly," concludes Smith.
