Handheld scanner with radio, display and keyboard

June 2003 Sensors & Transducers

Mobile data capture becomes an interactive process with Rhomberg's new SICK IT 3875 handheld scanner as a result of its rapid linear imaging module for bar codes and PDF; its four-line LCD display that shows a lot of order or read information; its keyboard for data input; and its integrated wide-band data radio module - which means that the operator remains in online dialogue with the control level within a working area of more than 3000 m2 - without requiring any software adaptations.

The IT 3875 supplements the family of robust and reliable radio scanners manufactured by SICK in Germany and imported by Rhomberg. Bar codes, high-density codes, or PDF 417 codes can be rapidly and reliably identified at long range - even if they are on large or unfavourably shaped objects - with the various linear image-capturing modules.

Wide-band data radio for reliable transfer paths

Data communication between the scanners and the ST 2070 base station takes place in the 2,4 GHz ISM band. This transfer process can cope with large data loads and has proved reliable in environments with a lot of interference thanks to its frequency stepping process. Thus, within a radius of about 30 m, the operator is always in reliable online contact with the control level. Depending on the system design, up to nine scanners can be operated simultaneously with up to four different application tasks via a single base station.

Simple integration in the IT environment

Smooth integration of the device in the existing IT environment is possible without modifying the software at the control level. With the help of the optional 'IQ app designer' software from handheld products, the data sent from the host can be converted in such a way that it is easily understood when displayed on the four-line display. If necessary the operator can even adjust the size of the characters displayed.

Commissioning - just remove from the box

More than 90% of customer applications can be solved directly by the factory-supplied integrated software module. Incoming goods, the warehouse, commissioning, dispatch, stock management and inventory are typical areas of operation for the IT 3875.
