The locally designed and manufactured MA range of low voltage motor protection and control relays from NewElec are aimed at satisfying all communication criteria relating to motor protection, particularly in the integrated process control industry.
Of particular importance, is that the MA range allows communication to various PLC and scada systems. This is facilitated via a DIN rail mounted Profibus protocol communications module. NewElec is aiming to launch other popular communications modules that will ultimately afford customers total flexibility of both switchgear and PLC brands and protocols.
The MA relays are chassis-mounted, and as standalone protection relays will provide comprehensive protection features such as overloading, locked rotor, running stall, underload, unbalance, phase loss, earth leakage and frozen contactor/breaker failure. They also provide protection against over/under voltage, phase rotation and selectable time periods for auto-sequencing of re-starts on underload trip applications.
Relay settings may be performed via a laptop computer in the field, running the NewElec MA relay front-end free issue software. Alternatively, the relay settings may be done via the communications module, after receiving the set parameters over the specific fieldbus being used. A remote, door-mounted, digital display unit, which also doubles as the relay setting tool, is available.
The relays feature a fixed main output trip relay, five field digital inputs and two programmable output relays. This will provide a user-configurable protection and control platform in standalone or fieldbus integrated systems via independent standalone modules catering for multivendor applications in existing and future fieldbus networks.
Additional features include three RTD over-temperature protection inputs and a trip fault record call up function that includes the last four faults, time and date stamped by means of the built-in realtime clock.
The MA range is available in four models covering motors with a full load current range from 1 to 250 A. A current transformer module block complete with core balance is supplied as an internal component of each relay. This allows for a low cost and time saving solution for MCC manufacturers.
