Slip monitor with double protection
May 2003
Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration
IFM Electronic's FS-2 monitor is designed for slip monitoring of slipping clutches, such as those found in extruders, tunnel drilling machines and similar machines with slipping power transmission. Conveyor belts can also be monitored efficiently with the device.
Providing double protection, the monitor reduces wear and tear of both clutch and belt. It has one switch-point for fast and reliable triggering in case of blocking and a second switch-point for immediate detection of long-term slip.
With a 5 kHz input frequency, corresponding to a pulse length of 0,01 ms, the monitor has two pulse inputs for PNP/NPN or Namur sensors and encoders. It is housed in plastic for DIN rail mounting, has 24 terminals and a 7/14-segment display.
The FS-2 counts the pulses proportional to the speed at both inputs and determines the difference. The monitor is especially suited for monitoring machines equipped with speed-controlled drives and is insensitive to fast braking or acceleration.
