Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Electric actuator - an easy solution for complex processes

April 2003 Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Complicated processes do not always require complex solutions. Utilising actuators for precise positioning of dampers and valves in process control can help to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower cost of ownership. However, not all actuators are equal. The HercuLine smart electric actuators from Honeywell are designed for ease of use and long life. From flexibility of product choice to accurate and reliable operation, these actuators are an easy choice.

The complete range comprises the HercuLine 2000, 2001, 2002 for low torque applications to 45 Nm; the HercuLine 10260 for higher torque applications to 400 Nm and finally the HercuLine 11280, which is suitable for high torque applications, up to 7500 Nm.

Programmable electronics and the convenience of HercuLink Palm PDA configuration and calibration make it easy to get started.

Simple programmable electronics enables easy configuration and the local operator interface (display and keypad) facilitates local set-up and calibration. RS485/Modbus RTU Communication enables plant-wide integration and communication access to all actuator parameters and ease of networking with other Honeywell control products for a complete control solution. Programmable relay outputs assign alarm, diagnostics or position and HercuLink Palm PDA configuration software means that configuration can be done anywhere.

Easy to operate

Once calibrated, HercuLine smart actuators are easy to operate. Non-contact position sensing provides high repeatability (0,2% of span), increased accuracy, and low non-linearity for higher quality. Precise and responsive control reduces dead time and overshoot as it starts and stops almost instantaneously. The self-locking/self-releasing gear train eliminates hunting, prevents overshoot, and enables bump less position transfer.

Cost effective

High reliability reduces cost of ownership and HercuLine's embedded information eliminates nuisance shutdowns with proactive maintenance. Its non-intrusive configuration prevents contamination, as the cover does not have to be removed after initial configuration.

Non-contact position sensing virtually eliminates high maintenance associated with slidewire position sensing. HercuLine also has a no-burnout motor, which ensures that the actuator is available for control 100% of the time and eliminates stall damage whilst its rugged gear train provides years of trouble free service.
