Valves, Actuators & Pump Control

Valves for water treatment applications

In the face of strong international competition, there is enormous pressure on plant engineers to keep costs down.

Particularly when it comes to plants with complex process sequences, designers and buyers of industrial plant and machinery are conscious of total cost of ownership. Components with a positive environmental benefit are increasingly coming to the fore as part of this ongoing evolution.

Multi-port valve portfolio for cost-efficient plant design

Gemü, the German-based valve specialists for measurement and control systems are meeting the ever increasing requirements of plant designers with green engineering concepts. With compact, lightweight, multifunctional and at the same time highly efficient components, the valve series’ offer plant engineers opportunities to save on costs for energy and resource consumption. Capital resources saved in this way can be used productively in other areas.

In particular, the multi-port valve portfolio in stainless steel and plastic is specifically designed for application-specific, safe and above all cost-efficient plant design. The multi-port valves are compact, space-saving and, due to their individual design, are able to perform a range of quite different functions in the most confined spaces, such as mixing, dividing, diverting, draining, feeding and cleaning – all in one block. Double shut offs, cross connections, safety and control functions as well as the integration of sensors, filters and non-return valves are all possible. Application-specific tasks can be assigned to these individual functions, such as distributing media, sampling, sterile steam or connecting cleaning media or they can be used to implement process engineering solutions, such as a minimum flow rate or a block and bleed safety function.

Process system safety ensured

Combining functions in the smallest of spaces offers several advantages: the hold-up volumes of media in the system are minimised, the flow optimised and the draining improved. This enhances the performance of the entire system. Another advantage of blocks is that they provide junction points within plants. This allows easier cleaning and also servicing. The Gemü multi-port valve blocks are tried and tested absolutely leak proof units.

Intelligently designed, multi-port valve blocks form the basis for compact plant components with high functionality. Block solutions provide a greatly simplified alternative to complex pipe work, valves and sensors. Only these unique designs are capable of implementing and bringing together particularly complex functions. The block houses all the required pipe work, connections and valves.

Compact, lightweight plastic multi-port valves are also suitable for a wide range of applications in various industrial sectors. The range of cost effective applications extends from installations for chemical processes in the chemical industry and environmental chemistry and plant solutions in surface finishing, coating and electroplating, as well as municipal and industrial water treatment, all the way through to solutions for power stations. Even when it comes to sensitive processes and technologies, such as reverse osmosis plants, neutralisation, swimming pools with microfiltration systems and chemical processes involving aggressive and corrosive media, multi-port valves are a cost-effective alternative to conventional valve designs.

Complex process engineering in the smallest spaces

In particular, the combination of single valves and multi-port valve blocks offers significant cost advantages for plant designers, particularly when considering all costs. Complex process engineering solutions can be implemented in the smallest of spaces to customer specification and with a high performance and function range. In addition to valves, Gemü offers a comprehensive range of accessories including controllers, flowmeters, stroke limiters and customised sensors which can be integrated into the multi-port valve block.

A prerequisite for a customised block design is exact planning and complete communication of requirements. Errors in the planning of production result in high consequential costs due to delays and extra costs for late commissioning, contaminated batches and later modifications to the plant. For this reason, Gemü co-operates closely with customers in the development of multi-port valve solutions for industrial plants. Its engineers develop ideas and initial drafts early on in projects. The drafts are then implemented constructively and processed in a highly efficient machine shop by experienced staff.

Application-specific solutions are lightweight, compact and designed for optimised draining. They have a clearly reduced dead-leg, no internal welds, provide increased product reliability and reduce the total cost of ownership. This enables financially complex valve interfaces to be implemented with an extensive range of functions which are both highly efficient and also conserve the environment.
