Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays
There are instances where interrupting the supply when a motor loses its load is absolutely mandatory.
Some of the more obvious examples are borehole pumps where the medium being pumped is also used to cool the motor, pumping against closed valves and idle conveyors. This also includes load loss monitoring in applications where a load loss is significant and could be the prelude to a series of more complex problems.
An add-on solution to complement whatever protection is already in place is the NewElec UCR 80 relay that monitors one phase only and requires a 1 A input from a suitably rated XX:1 current transformer. The chassis mounted relay is equipped with two separated setting dials. One facilitates the setting of the motor load to be monitored as a % of CT ratio. The other allows the user to set the trip delay, in seconds, once the set current has been detected.
The UCR 80 has two potential free changeover contacts. One of these changes over as soon as the condition is reached and is intended as a pre-trip alarm. The other is the main trip contact that will energise after the timing period selected by the user has timed out. Should the load normalise during this countdown, the timer will automatically reset.
Three LEDs indicate relay healthy and power on, detection of the redefined load threshold and trip occurrence. The UCR 80 is accurate with a repeatability of 1% and offers a user selectable auto or manual reset preference.
