Location intelligence gains popularity

January 2010 News

Location intelligence (LI) has been in the limelight in recent years and is becoming increasingly sought after as a business differentiator to connect people and objects to places, providing larger revenue opportunities within both the consumer and mainstream information technology industries.

According to Alan Ellis, CEO of ST Group, location related content and context enable businesses to make intelligent decisions, plan more targeted marketing campaigns and take action as the visual power of maps reveals trends, patterns and insights that tabular views and pie-charts cannot. “Although the discipline is not new, with geographic information systems (GIS) having been around for many years, the interest shows that more and more organisations are realising the value of LI in enhancing the business focus of Business Intelligence.

“I expect that the coming years will see an increased integration of location intelligence technology with business tools such as BI, CRM and ERP systems. It will play a big role in increasing the diversity, availability, visibility and portability of global geographic data,” he concludes.
