Ride for the Automation Skills Development Initiative
March 2008
News
Dave Wibberley and Malcolm Heathfield of Adroit Technologies are tackling one of the toughest mountain biking events in the world, the Cape-Epic (www.cape-epic.com) and are using the event to raise funds for a Skills Development Initiative with the automation industry.
“I wanted to use this opportunity to not just conquer a personal challenge but also to raise funding and awareness for promoting the industrial controls and automation industry to potential newcomers to this great industry,” says Dave Wibberley, managing director of Adroit Technologies.
Heathfield continues, ”The industry is one of the most dynamic, interesting and challenging and our idea is to get enough funds together to tackle the ever important task of building awareness at grass roots and to be able to address the ever important task of skills development.”
The event takes place over nine days starting on 28 March, in Knysna and finishes 950 km later at the Lourensford Wine Estate in Franschoek. With a total ascent of over 19 000 m the route takes in some of the most remote mountain passes and scenery that occur in our wonderful country.
Our target is to raise R100 000 so be part of something that is both interesting and fun. So here is the catch - we would like you to consider one of the following sponsorships:
* Corporate Sponsorship at R1000 a day that either of us finish to a maximum of R5000 if either of us finish.
* Individual Sponsorship at R10 per day that either of us finish - less than the cost of a burger and chips!
So far we have commitment from the following companies: Siemens, Alpret, Lapp Cables, Endress and Hauser, FESTO, Yokagawa, Burkett and Thermo Electron.
Time is limited so should you want to support this initiative please e-mail [email protected]
All funds raised will be administered by the IIG, an interest group that is made up of most of the larger suppliers to the automation industry.
