Version 2.2 of locally developed reporting and analysis tool is released

July 2003 Data Acquisition & Telemetry

Opus Technologies, developers of Opus Web Based Reporting and Analysis software has recently released Version 2.2. Built on the robust legacy of Version 2.1, this powerful information gathering and collation tool boasts market driven improvements resulting from four months of product research across many business and industry sectors.

The new version has enhanced network-browsing ability allowing the user to authenticate to a resource using a different username and password. All data source server components along with the scheduler have the ability to connect under a different user and password thereby improving the security of the system.

The company has made advancements in the scalability of the product by changing the Opus Server component to Com+. With no visible component, these changes increase report-generating performance, speed, security of the system, the ability to share memory resources and database connections eliminating the need for each user to connect to a database when generating a report. Additionally, the Visual Basic Script Function has opened the system up to customised programming - giving the user the ability to write individualised functions or procedure.

Upgrades have been made to the report element of the product that reflect the markets requirements for simple effectiveness. Opus 2.2 now provides additional functionality to support custom axis and multiple axis within line graphs. In addition, superior data comparison is enabled by bar and line graphs generation in the same chart allowing users to plot different sets of data in a single visual report. Line graph generation advances supports the display of all series co-ordinates based on the position of the mouse pointer. "Version 2.2 is scalable enough for the end-user to create highly complex reports for intricate and demanding projects with complete simplicity and ease," says Paul Vlachakis, development manager for the Opus project.

The Opus 2.2 Query Builder introduces a greater amount of control over data using SQL statements. This new addition supports the users ability to perform more complex queries on data and to sort and join data from different tables.

Adding to its already extensive list of data sources from which the product can extract information, Opus Version 2.2 is able to mine records from a Microsoft SQL stored procedure. This feature is further enhanced by the new Dynamic Functoids that provide one function for use on multiple data sources or reports, placing users in the unique position where they are able to structure their own reports from a multitude of data sources without having to involve IT staff at added expense.

Additional enhancements include report previews that can now be viewed without having to leave the configurator and global parameters that eliminate the need to recreate the same parameters for different reports enabling the parameterisation of queries, functoids and properties of report elements.

Migration from OPUS Version 2.0 or above to Version 2.2 is enabled by the Import Export Facility. This utility has the additional benefits of a backup system for Opus and can be used to move reports, functoids and data sources from one OPUS server to another.

Opus Version 2.2 is available immediately from Opus Technologies. Owing to its local development, OPUS is priced at approximately 50% of its US competition.
