Another year has flown past and holiday season is upon us again, time to swap the business suit for the bathing variety and enjoy some hard-earned relaxation in the beautiful African sun. It’s been quite a year for the local automation industry, with perhaps the most notable achievement being the success of the inaugural Africa Automation Fair (AAF). The SAIMC also enjoyed another winning year, the last under the leadership of incumbent president Vinesh Maharaj. (Read his final ‘President’s desk’ in this issue.) In 2016, current vice-president, Oratile Sematle, takes over the reins and has already committed himself to carry on the quest to get C&I recognised as the 10th official engineering discipline – much to look forward to during this new era.
Here at SA Instrumentation and Control, it’s been another interesting twelve months with so much to report on that we have had to rely more and more on electronic media to get the news out timeously – a trend that we think will grow even more important in the future. A highlight for the editorial team, and a prime example of where online has an advantage over print, was the e-newsletter, ‘Fair Comment’, which we sent out every morning during AAF. Based on feedback from the organisers and analytics from Google, the concept was very well received by delegates and exhibitors alike. A balanced mix that exploits the strengths of both online and print media has always been Technews’ strategy and this is set to continue going forward.
In closure for this year, we wish all our readers and advertisers a happy and restful holiday break. Drive safely and take care in the sun.
