Successful European EtherCAT Plug Fest

July 2019 News

The latest EtherCAT Plug Fest was recently held by the EtherCAT Technology Group (ETG) in co-operation with acontis technologies in Ravensburg, Germany. In total 57 participants from 27 different EtherCAT device manufacturers based in eight countries spanning four continents accepted ETG’s invitation and brought numerous different devices to the event. It was hosted by acontis technologies, a leading provider of EtherCAT technology. Participants could test their own EtherCAT devices in a shared network with those of other manufacturers by using the EtherCAT Conformance Test Tool. They also had plenty of time to exchange knowledge and ask for advice from the EtherCAT experts on-site. The different master and slave products led to a balanced ratio of devices and real life network conditions.

Christoph Widmann, managing director of acontis technologies, sees incredible value in the Plug Fest. “The EtherCAT Plug Fests are the perfect opportunity to test devices and applications in a large network together with other manufacturers. For that reason, acontis has participated in many Plug Fests in the past. As a long term member of the EtherCAT Technology Group, we are extraordinarily happy to host an EtherCAT Plug Fest ourselves,” he says.

Florian Hammel, an on-site EtherCAT expert, adds: “This Plug Fest met the customary high standard, the atmosphere among the participants was good and the location was perfect for connecting the huge number of devices and for working efficiently. The positive feedback from the participating device manufacturers confirms the event’s continued success.” ETG hosts EtherCAT Plug Fests all over the world several times a year to provide practical, hands-on support for its members during EtherCAT device development.
