Magnet celebrates 45 years in business
December 2017
News
It has been 45 years since Magnet was established in Durban – as a team of 10 – supplying copper wire and heating elements. Today, the Magnet Group comprises four divisions – Magnet Electrical Supplies, Magnet Electrical Projects, Magnet Energy and Magnol Electrical Contractors – which provide comprehensive electrical solutions, including design, supply, automation, installation and commissioning.
“Through a carefully structured expansion programme, new products are launched to meet exact market demand and innovative services are introduced through the company’s specialist divisions,” says managing director Brian Howarth. “An exciting development for Magnet has been in energy efficiency and energy-saving project management. These services contribute significantly to the reduction of wasted energy in industrial and commercial sectors throughout the country. Apart from lighting solutions, Magnet’s energy-saving service incorporates metering, hot water systems, air-conditioning controls and solar systems.
“Strategies to maintain the company’s leading position in a highly competitive sector include setting stringent benchmarks for the company, in accordance with relevant international standards.”
Ongoing in-house training programmes ensure up-to-date technical expertise for staff, and regular seminars for customers encompass practical training in product selection, energy efficiency, installation, repair and maintenance, as well as safety inspections in commercial and industrial sectors.
Magnet is committed to sustainable development and instils in its team a responsibility for health, safety and the environment, as well as local communities.
Through its technical expertise, a vast range of quality branded products and a 24-hour skilled support service, Magnet will continue to make a positive contribution to the South African economy.
