Sensors for silo monitoring

November 2017 Sensors & Transducers

The TAG level switch functions in all kinds of materials, conductive as well as non-conductive, fluids, and liquids (grains, powders, plastic raw materials, oils and fuels, water and sewage etc).

The function of the sensing unit is not hampered by material sticking to it and is not influenced by relative humidity of the environment. It does not require maintenance and has an unlimited life span after initial fitting. The set is adjusted to working conditions for the particular product being sensed and adjusted for contamination, after which no further adjustment is required. It can be designed to fit any requirement and is also available in a ‘fail safe’ version.

Method of operation

Some of the principles on which the instruments function (all principles simultaneously): Changes of RF current, voltage, loss of energy and changes of dielectric constant versus air (disregarding capacity). RF is transferred from the feeler through the mass of the material to the ground point of the sensing unit. This causes RF energy losses. The variations of RF current are turned into DC before reaching the control box, where the amplifier activates a relay incorporating dry contacts. The set will continue to work even when the feeler is totally covered by product contamination.
