The latest ePowertrain technology from SKF, the knowledge engineering company, has been developed to help the manufacturers of hybrid and electric vehicles (HEV) to reduce assembly and production costs. The new technology also plays an important role in improving vehicle efficiencies, reducing energy use and extending operating range.
The ePowertrain portfolio is built around a number of innovative and complementary products. It includes a unique SKF rotor positioning sensor-bearing unit, which is designed to improve the control of permanent magnet motors. The unit integrates a low friction bearing and intelligent sensor in a single compact and low weight assembly. This is quick and simple to install on the production line, offers improved motor power density and enhanced control of motor torque, reducing overall noise and vibration.
Also available is the SKF motor encoder sensor-bearing unit. This provides precise encoder pulses for the accurate real-time measurement of motor speed, direction and incremental position, together with low friction, reduced noise and high speed bearing functionality.
Other products in the ePowertrain portfolio include customised bearings for steering column applications, providing significantly reduced noise level while maintaining existing performance characteristics and extremely robust, low friction and high speed ball bearings to enhance electric motor efficiency and power density still further.
Alberto Carlevaris, Powertrain Engineering, says, “We have developed our ePowertrain product portfolio to help HEV manufacturers improve the efficiency of vehicle sub-systems. This in turn reduces carbon emissions while contributing to the vehicle driving experience through extended range and reduced noise and vibration.”
Record-breaking dragline relocation
