In memoriam: Jenny Warwick

1 July 2016 News

Jenny Warwick, founder of a prominent South African business-to-business publishing company and a highly respected industry figure, passed away on 2 June 2016 following a lengthy battle with illness.

After forming Crown Publications in 1986 and nurturing it over the years that followed, Warwick served as a board member on the Specialist Press Association from 1998 to 2000, a board member of the Magazine Publishers Association from 2000 to 2003, and chairman of the Pica Awards (for excellence in magazine publishing) from 1998 to 2003.

Far more than just a successful businesswoman, she was deeply involved in the community of Bedfordview, where she was born and resided for most of her life. Not only was she a founding member of the Bedfordview Tudor Rose Ladies Club and an active member of the Housewives League, she also served Bedfordview between 1977 and 1995 in the roles of Town Councillor, Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Chairman of Management Committee. She also held portfolios on Electrical Engineering, Library Services, Health, Investments, Environment, Parks and Recreation.

From 1990 to 1992, Warwick was part of the negotiating team involved in the amalgamation of the City Council of Germiston and the Town Councils of Kathlehong, Palm Ridge and Bedfordview, and from 1992 to 1994 she was a City Councillor on the Germiston Transitional Council. In 2001, she was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award for contribution to the community.

Jenny Warwick is survived by her husband John, children David and Lee-Ann, and brother Lennie.
