Adroit Technologies wins the MTN Business Mind2Machine Challenge Award

January 2016 News

Adroit Technologies is proud and honoured to announce its win of the inaugural MTN Business Mind2Machine Challenge Award in November 2015.

The Mind2Machine Challenge Award was launched by MTN Business in association with Intel and The Innovation Hub. The challenge was the first of its kind in South Africa and took the form of a M2M (machine-to-machine) solutions development challenge.

The challenge had a dual purpose: to bring together a community of developers in the M2M space; and to foster the growth of M2M in Africa. Ultimately MTN Business wanted to partner with pioneering developers to bring exciting, original M2M solutions to the African market.

MTN Business has a number of clients who require different solutions to monitor, manage and track assets. Based on this, Adroit selected to develop a remote monitoring application – an enterprise level diesel generator asset management solution.

The system monitors aspects such as location, vibration, movement, content and consumption, amongst others. Based on the information gathered, it can initiate actions such as movement and heat or tampering alerts and prevent switch on/off. Additionally it adds value by understanding the business drivers through optimisation, consumption, costs and performance. Based on the Adroit M2M platform and the RemoteWorx I/O board, which was co-developed with Systems Automation and Management (SAM), the solution proved to be a winner in the judges’ minds.

Adroit’s industry experience guided it to focus on off-the-shelf products as opposed to building a bespoke customised solution for this challenge. Thus it was decided to co-develop a complete M2M platform based on Adroit’s own scada, visualisation and reporting platform, as well as the RemoteWorx I/O board.

“MTN has a great vision of being the continent leader in providing infrastructure and management capability of any scale M2M project and we will be integrating the Adroit offering into its SIM and M2M management solution. This will give customers and solution providers greater control of their own projects within the MTN cloud offering,” said Adroit Technologies’ managing director Dave Wibberley after the award was announced.

This platform makes it easy to deploy M2M point to point data acquisition in the cloud or at the site. The server can be used as a gateway in conjunction with other business systems and complete solutions can be built with the Adroit Scada application.
