CMP Products is a division of UK registered British Engines Limited, founded in 1922 by Harold and Charles Lamb. Today the Company remains under family ownership through its current chairman Alex Lamb, grandson of one of the founders.

The early British Engines Limited business was conducted from a small building, with marine engineering and sub-contract machining work being at the core of its activities. The company had entered the marine engineering market when it began servicing, overhauling and reconditioning diesel engines for marine vessels. Development relied largely upon the success of its customers, as it did not originally offer any of its own products, and its business was increasingly subject to sporadic fluctuation. Having identified that it was not in control of its own destiny, management decided to employ a product development strategy, and embark on a path of diversification and significant business growth.

In 1957, cable terminating glands were introduced and marketed under the CMP brand. Over the next 50 years, CMP Products grew and developed an international reputation for quality and reliability in various sectors of industry including oil and gas, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power generation, mining and transportation. Many of the company’s innovative developments incorporate unique features and benefits that have evolved directly from customer needs. This is just one of the reasons why CMP is regarded as a specialist in the field of hazardous area cable gland design and manufacture.

CMP Products is a quality assured company responsible for its own design and operation through a quality management system complying with the requirements of BS EN ISO 9001:2000. It has regional offices in Houston, Singapore, Dubai, Pusan, Shanghai and Perth to support key global markets. CMP is currently establishing an office in Johannesburg to serve the African market. These offices provide additional backup to the global network of agents and distributors around the world.

In the oil and gas sector, CMP has enjoyed considerable success in recent years, both in respect of improved safety and higher quality expectations. With its wealth of experience, the company can offer a package embracing competitive price and delivery, and also a commitment to the demanding product quality and reliability required in harsh industrial applications.
