NLA Test and Measurement Conference 2015 takes on Cape Town

March 2015 News

The National Laboratory Association (NLA) is pleased to announce that the 2015 Test and Measurement Conference will be held at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West, Cape Town from 12-14 October.

The conference has never been to Cape Town before and after the 2014 road show, which had a great response from members around the country, the NLA decided to take the conference to Cape Town this year.

“Since the theme of this year’s conference is ‘Quality of Life: What is the measure if it?’ What an appropriate city to host our conference in,” commented NLA director Steve Sidney.

Sidney also said that they are arranging travel packages for their members and are starting their marketing campaign earlier this year, in order for interested parties to allocate time and budgets accordingly.

Additionally, the call for papers has been announced and applicants are invited to submit an abstract of 350 words or less in order to present either a paper, poster or tutorial at the conference. Abstracts can be submitted electronically via the NLA-website at www.nla.org.za, where all relevant information can be provided. The abstract and manuscript formats are also available on the NLA website.

The following headings are areas of focus:

• Measurement traceability: method validation, measurement uncertainty, reference materials.

• Laboratory quality systems: ISO/IEC 17025, accreditation, calibration and proficiency testing.

• Laboratory staff: recruitment, training, evaluating competence.

• Measurement and testing in industry.

• Legal metrology and compulsory specifications.
