Transmit data up to 4 km with Twin Link

November 2014 Industrial Wireless

Recent newcomer to the South African market, Define Instruments, has introduced its flagship wireless product: Twin Link.

Twin Link uses wireless technology to communicate to and control devices over distances of up to 4 km (with line of sight). However, reach can be extended beyond 4 km with the addition of a repeater unit that can also be used to transmit around RF obstacles when line of sight is obscured.

“Wireless and simple are two words you don’t often see together,” say Define Instruments CEO, Anthony Glucina. “We have focused on reducing setup time for operators by making it as straightforward as possible from the moment they open the box.”

Out of the box ready

The pre-paired point to point units are ‘out of the box ready’ for 4-20 mA I/O applications, but additionally can accept a variety of input types including RTD and frequency.

Twin Link boasts two analog inputs plus four digital I/O switches. Channels are fully isolated and units are industrial strength.

Define’s intuitive ToolBox software allows setup with the minimum of fuss and the less technically knowledgeable operators will appreciate its innovative sidebar help which provides all the information required including wiring diagrams and examples of application.

Toolbox also offers useful features like saving/loading configurations and generating a configuration certificate for printing.

Potential cost savings

As Twin Link can be used both to transmit and to control, it reduces costs by removing the need for separate items. For example, in the case of using Twin Link for a wireless link between a reservoir and a pump station, costs are reduced by programming the input device as a controller to control the pump directly, removing the need for a separate pump controller.
