Detect metal objects inside tubing

A range of Ring and Tube inductive sensors from ifm electronic detect small metal objects that pass through tubing. These sensors are ideal for assembly automation applications that include feeder processes and parts counting. Two output versions are available: static and dynamic. Each style features extremely quick response times and high resolutions – even steel balls with 0,6 mm diameter can be detected.

The static sensors operate like an inductive proximity sensor and generate an output signal when there is metal in the detection zone. These sensors can be used for a variety of feed applications that include detecting falling screws or monitoring for jams. Static-style sensors are also used in wire-brake detection applications.

The dynamic sensors are used when very small parts with low mass or fast-moving parts need to be detected. When the sensor detects a part, it generates an output, which is adjustable from 0,1 to 150 ms. The resolution is also adjustable for the application needs and will remain stable, even in the case of metal contamination in the tube. Pulse stretching and sensitivity are adjustable via a potentiometer. PNP and NPN with normally open and normally closed options are available in varying diameters and connection options.
