Emerson upgrades valve testing equipment

August 2013 News

Emerson has purchased the latest in control valve testing equipment. The almost two-ton rig can test control valves with liquid or gas up to 250 bar. Both seat leakage tests and valve body tests can be done. The machine has a quick clamp hydraulic system allowing the operator to clamp valves in seconds.

The speed of the machine allows Emerson to test large quantities of valves in a short space of time. The automatic test procedure does the complete test in minutes and electronically records all the information and processes a digital certificate that can be printed. The computer registration system has a database that records all test certificates giving Emerson immediate access to all past test information.

Tests are done according to the selected classification and a laser bubble counter provides for accurate recording. The actuator performance test system tests different commands to ensure perfect actuator operation. An option for online test witnessing can be offered to remote or even international clients unable to make multiple factory acceptance tests.

The machine has many safety features, the software and sensors make up a safety interlock system which monitors the operator and does not allow any out of sequence or unsafe operations.

This machine upgrade serves as one component of a larger project to upgrade Emerson’s operations in South Africa. Included in the project were the upgrade of all certified lifting equipment and implementation of Lean Principles in all operations. These significant investments, including the procurement of the Ventil test rig from A.T. Technical Services, thus will enable Emerson’s valve automation business unit to provide its regional customers with a comprehensive valve/actuator integration and testing service.
