Telco diffuse proximity sensors

June 2013 Operator Interfaces, Switches & Relays

Telco Sensors’ SMP-diffuse proximity switch is 100% compatible with its proximity series SMP 8000. These mechanical end-switches are still popular in conveyors and material handling industries, however, the disadvantage of a whisker end/mechanical switch is that the whisker can break, or the head can be ripped off, so there is a high cost to maintain and replace. Also, the detection tolerance will decrease after time and eventually it will become unreliable.

The ideal solution for these types of applications is the Telco Sensors SMP 8000 series. The main advantage is that it is a non-contact device (infrared beam with 0-500 mm adjustable sensing range) so the chances of mechanical damage is reduced. It is available in 3 wire DC and 2 wire AC options, which wire up exactly the same as a whisker switch for electrical compatibility.

Sensors are not affected by alignment, are water resistant, immune to light, shock, vibration and have a high penetration power.
