Calibration services – unitemp’s milestones to meet industries requirements
April 2013
News
In order to offer clients a comprehensive calibration service, unitemp is gearing up for field calibration and verification of a broad spectrum of parameters. Since establishing its calibration laboratory in Cape Town in 2006, and having to deal with an ever increasing demand for calibration services from industry, it is proud to announce the following milestones:
Calibration of first thermal imager under SANAS accreditation
Thermography is widely being applied in industry for critical diagnostic functions, making calibration of these sophisticated thermal cameras an important service. In order to eliminate the costs and delays of shipping to overseas laboratories, unitemp has invested in the necessary technology to perform the calibration locally. The governing body, SANAS, has given it the go ahead to produce calibration certificates for thermal imagers. unitemp analyses the flat field response of the devices to determine compliance with SANAS calibration requirements.
A new service: calibration and servicing of portable flue gas analysers
The flue gas analyser is a precision instrument used to make measurements with legal and financial significance, so regular calibration is important. unitemp’s flue gas measurements are traceable to national measuring standards and a full calibration certificate with errors and uncertainties is supplied with each calibration.
The company has adjustment capabilities for testo flue gas analysers that are out of specification and is able to provide an all-encompassing service for these analysers – supplying, servicing and calibrating them. Future plans are to obtain SANAS accreditation for flue gas calibrations.
Accreditation for humidity calibrations
To ensure adequate quality control, companies are incorporating their humidity measurements into process control specifications and into their monitoring procedures.
These developments, combined with recent technology advances, have led industry to demanding higher levels of accuracy in relative humidity measurement. unitemp is aiming to achieve SANAS accreditation for humidity calibration towards the second half of 2013.
“We also hope to upgrade this service with a more versatile and accurate portable humidity generator,” says Roy MacGregor, laboratory head at the Cape Town branch.
