Endress+Hauser's safety mission

October 2012 IS & Ex

Endress+Hauser reports that more than 10 million devices installed globally, and according to all relevant safety requirements, have given it the necessary experience and know-how to ensure the right safety advice for its customers in all situations. Certified safety engineers and management systems as well as long-standing partnerships with international test, certification and standardisation bodies reinforce this commitment to plant safety.

The comprehensive range of devices for hazardous areas includes applications in Zone 0. Many of the devices have been developed using state-of-the-art technology in accordance with IEC 61508 SIL 2, also allowing for homogeneous-redundant application up to SIL 3 in safety-instrumented systems. Uniform operating and safety concepts deliver simplicity thereby increasing safety in terms of managing operations.

Safety related concepts

Maximum safety and reliability in operation are guaranteed through consistent compliance with guidelines and standards and the implementation of user-specific requirements (eg, Namur). In parallel, innovations such as the first Coriolis mass flow measuring device incorporating reliable two-wire technology are important milestones on the path to safer system operation.

For testing, Fieldcheck is available for the systematic testing of safety-instrumented flow systems with no need for dismantling, while Liquiphant Fail Safe serves as a monitoring system in water and wastewater applications. Services and solutions for increased safety include:

* Comprehensive consulting and support tools.

* A wide range of seminars and information events.

* Design of safety circuits (Ex and SIL).

Customer benefits

Planning and design: compliance with all relevant safety standards; easy planning of safety-instrumented systems; outsourcing of SIL loop calculations or intrinsic safety certification and prevention of design faults.

Procurement and purchasing: easy procurement for safety applications and availability of complete device documentation.

Technology and operation: tailor-made solutions increase operating life and safety in system operation and appropriate services help to eliminate sources of error and increase safety.

Service and management: high level of expertise guarantees maximum safety and maximum system availability and lower operating costs due to time-saving testing methods.
