Redline Communications, a technology leader in the design and manufacture of standards-based broadband wireless access solutions, is the first in the world to market an 802.16 compliant product, the AN-100, according to local South African distributor, Spescom Telecommunications.

On a recent visit to South Africa, Redline sales director, Simon Wilder, said, "The latest enhancements to the AN-100 represent the world's first IEEE 802.16A compliant broadband wireless offering. This latest development now brings TDM (time division multiplex) functionality to enable the transport of realtime voice and data, providing a true converged platform for backhaul and access applications."

The AN-100 Eight Port TDM is an 802.16 multiservices technology designed to support interoperability and provide a migration path to WiMAX Forum CertifiedT solutions. The introduction of T1/E1 ports enables users to interface directly to today's legacy TDM equipment while offering a future proof platform to support a fully packet-based network architecture for voice and data convergence.

Operating in the 3,5 GHz licensed band initially, the AN-100's orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology provides unparalleled capacity, range, reliability and scalability even in the most challenging environments, says the company. With support for up to eight TDM links, the AN-100 delivers 70 Mbps in the air, at ranges up to 45 km with multiple levels of quality of service.

Redline says that all its products integrate a field-proven approach to OFDM that provides unprecedented non-line-of-sight and optical-line-of-sight capabilities to deliver exceptional range even when the transmission path is partially obstructed.
