SAIMC: Durban branch

November 2015 SAIMC

The Durban branch held its monthly Technology Evening, on 7 October and despite the temptation of a world cup rugby game, attendance was still good.

The evening was kindly sponsored by Aveng ACS and Emerson and Reghard van Jaarsveld, senior sales & applications engineer with Fisher Valves took us through the fundamentals of steam conditioning and de-superheating. It was an interesting and complex subject and Reghard covered such aspects as:

• Steam conditioning: What is it and what is the greatest challenge?

• What is the goal of de-superheating?

• What is superheated and saturated steam and what can it be used for?

• De-superheating application guidelines: What to look for?

• The importance of drains.

• Particulate challenges.

• De-superheater styles: Which design is best?

Reghard started his career at PetroSA where he did his apprenticeship, trade and test and worked on and offshore. He holds a diploma for Industrial Instrumentation and has travelled extensively to many international seminars which have broadened his knowledge in the process automation field. He has 10 years’ experience with Fisher Valves so was well suited to present to us.
