Message from the Process Expo organiser

1 April 2011 News

Process Expo 2011 is set to be the most exhilarating automation and information technology event this continent has ever seen!

The enormous effort, commitment and passion from our exhibitors this year has resulted in a sell-out scenario for the first time ever in the history of this event. Hall 5 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre will be packed to the brim with a record number of exhibiting companies. The devotion from the vendors within the process automation, control and information technology industry by far exceeded our greatest expectations for 2011.

Visitors to the show may look forward to viewing a diverse range of international representation as well as local companies which in turn comprises of a number of ‘Proudly South African’ manufacturers. Process Expo 2011 will showcase total solutions enabling you to control, regulate and automate your processes and operations. The presentation of brand new products, applications and technologies will play a particularly prominent role, and you will no doubt gain a complete overview of the world of automation technology right here on your door step.

Another first-ever: now incorporating the Process Training Academy alongside the Expo. The Process Training Academy offers visitors 90 cutting-edge training sessions at no charge over the three show days. Topics include Technology, Services, MES, Process Visualisation, DCS/PLC/RTU, Drives and a host of instrumentation-specific workshops and training courses – truly a once-off opportunity not to be missed. Detailed descriptions of the training sessions and information on dates and times on offer can be obtained from the official expo website – go to www.process-expo.co.za

Other exciting events to consider attending include various product launches and of course our ever-popular early morning breakfast presentations featuring Allan Heyl (last surviving member of the notorious Stander Gang), Kobus Wiese (everybody’s favourite rugby man), and Theo Venter (presenting ‘Dead Man Walking’ – a true touching Health & Safety story of a person whose entire life changed in a split second). For more details, please look out for invitation mails from the organisers, your suppliers and watch the press and website for details.

Our exhibitors and everyone at élancommunications are literally counting the days to the opening hour at 9 am on Tuesday, 24 May – a date which brings me to yet another first time ever – the interesting dilemma with our original dates and our government …

Literally a few hours before we were scheduled to go to print with thousands of invitation tickets, advertisements in various industry-related publications, posters, banners, flags, promotional gifts, press releases and letters such as this one, a public announcement was made that virtually turned our world at élancommunications upside down – the date for the Local Government Elections, declared a public holiday, was suddenly set for Wednesday 18 May – the middle day of our beautiful Process Expo, booked and sold to almost 100 exhibitors over 18 months ago!

I immediately followed my first instinct and called a presidential spokesperson who kindly published his mobile number with an on-line press release – and surprisingly answered my frantic call within the first ring or two. He assured me that I could ‘reasonably assume’ this date would be confirmed and gazetted within the next few days, and yes, he totally understood that the Process Expo had been booked long before the Local Election date was announced, but he did not think it would be possible for them to move their election date as the President has already “said his speech in many places”. Frankly, so have I, but I figured it was probably time to accept defeat and move to plan B – change our dates.

Not a single complaint or negative comment from any Exhibitor came back to me after sending the dreaded e-mail, knowing well that many of these vendors have already booked shipments for certain dates, confirmed supplier services, had brochures and leaflets printed – I received only e-mails of support and a real sense of determination to make the show work for the industry no matter what! And I thought (again)... that is the thing about us (South Africans)! We face a challenge, we bite the bullet, we simply get on with it!

And so I therefore urge you with a matching sense of fortitude to support this event, and mark our new and revised dates in large, bold writing in your diaries today: Tuesday, 24 May to Thursday 26 May 2011, 9am to 4pm daily, Hall 5, JHB Expo Centre, Nasrec. It only comes around every alternate year, do not miss this one!

Looking forward to seeing you there!
