A friend and past president of the SAIMC contacted me today to let me know that he is back in the IM&C field, welcome back Johan Steyn! I hope that you will, as in the past, add value to the SAIMC and our trade in general. Please complete your SAIMC application form @ www.saimc.org.za
I have been making a lot of noise about the branches adding more value to the members. I am proud to firstly announce the establishment of the new SAIMC Cape Town branch. A meeting was held on 8 May 2008 at the Milnerton Caltex Refinery and a committee was elected to handle the SAIMC affairs for that region. I wish the Cape Town branch all the success and longevity due to it, go get them gents. Remember that you can enter the Branch of the Year award!
Secondly, we had a big brain storming session with the Durban committee. This was a very productive meeting and the Durban SAIMC is on track for a full revival. So Durban members, keep your eyes on your mails to ensure that you do not miss the exciting evenings coming your way.
At our first council meeting, the council also approved funding for the branches for 2008. I have already witnessed the benefits of this funding. The Secunda branch had a presenter from Sasol present on SIL reviews. The Vaal branch also had a presenter from Sasol present on 'Asset management for preventative maintenance in modern plants'. This funding is being used for the purpose of finding relevant, hands-on content matters. The branches now have more choices for who the presenter will be. Make contact with your branch if you want to hear about something in particular, if there is enough interest they will see what they can put together. Current hot topics are wireless networks, asset management, what about my favourite ARP0108?
