SI and MES provider boldly enters new playing field

July 2002 News

Keops Isis Industrial Information Systems (Keops Isis), a member of the multi billion rand JSE-listed Altech Group of companies, has recently identified a new playing field in the industrial quality assurance market. Following a decision by a leading local electronic manufacturer to implement an ISO 9001:2000 Quality System for its head office and subsidiaries, Keops Isis tendered on the project and was awarded the order.

The project, which encompasses the documentation of the policies, business procedures and work instructions required by the company to conform to international ISO 9001:2000 standards, was started in April 2002 and will run over a period of 10 months. A draft of the quality policy, which is user friendly and features a consistent look and feel for both head office and its divisions, has already been completed. Once implemented, the procedures and related work instructions within the companies will be addressed.

As part of the drive to complete the project successfully within time and budget, management training courses are being conducted by Keops Isis and regular steering committee meetings have been scheduled with the client's senior executive members. An evaluation audit will be performed by the SABS to review the Quality Policy Manual, followed by readiness review visits to all the companies to ensure that the contents of the manual are being properly executed and adhered to.

Says MD of Keops Isis, Pieter Theron: "Although this contract is a first for Keops Isis in the quality assurance market, the entire process basically revolves around project management and sound change management, which is what Keops does best. Having come through the process ourselves, we have built up significant experience in managing the associated change during such a project. I am very confident that the client will see marked bottom-line improvements after the implementation is finished. Quality has become the buzz word in the industry and Keops Isis is ideally positioned to enter this niche market."

Founded in 1995, Keops Isis is a leading provider of manufacturing execution and control systems to the South African processing industry and a well-established integrator of multilevel industrial information systems. The company traditionally operated in the metals industry, but is currently growing its presence in virtually all sectors of the manufacturing industry. Besides expanding into Africa and increasing its local client base, Keops Isis' strategic goal is to provide clients with added value by increasing operational efficiency through the implementation of redesigned operations management practices and business processes and enabling systems, whilst simultaneously providing conceptual solutions for the integration of current and future IT architectural building blocks.
