Metal content cable ties ensure product integrity

August 2018 Enclosures, Cabling & Connectors

Many food, beverage and pharmaceutical products on supermarket shelves are household names and their brand reputation depends on assured safety and hygienic processes. On a daily basis, the prevention of product contamination remains a priority for the producers.

In an effort to minimise the risk of contamination, HellermannTyton has designed a metal content tie (MCT) specifically designed for the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Unlike a standard cable tie, the metal content in the head and strap of the MCT allows for easy identification by metal detectors and X-ray machines.

The MCT is ideal for the management of cables and tubing in processing and packaging areas, as well as the possibility of sealing ingredient containers. If food or other sensitive products are contaminated by either loose cut-off sections or missed MCTs, these will easily be found by metal or X-ray detectors.

Suitable for use in saline environments with high humidity, the metallic pigment of the MCT enhances visual detection and assists in reducing the risk of contamination. The HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points) principles, developed by the World Health Organization, demand that effective food safety regulations are implemented and met throughout the application of the hazard and risk analysis. HellermannTyton’s MCT meets these standards.

The polyamide, nylon-based ties come in a wide arrange of sizes and tensile strengths ensuring widespread application. Additional features include operation temperature between -40 and 85°C and adherence to Flammability UL94 HB.
