China’s largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker Pan Asia was launched in Hudong Zhonghua shipyard, Shanghai. The Pan Asia is the first tanker for the Pan Union LNG project and, with a capacity of 174 000 cubic metres, is expected to bring China 1,5 million tons/year of clean energy. The Pan Asia integrates dual fuel electric propulsion technology and a re-liquefaction plant, a first in a large LNG tanker. Arca made a considerable contribution to the re-liquefaction system by providing the necessary compressor anti-surge valves. Final testing took place from January to March before the vessel began transporting LNG produced in Queensland.
Serious surging can result in vane fatigue damage in a compressor, hence the installation of anti-surge valves to prevent this centrifugal compressor surge phenomenon. Arca anti-surge valves avoid surging by accurately adjusting the gas circulation or blow-off flow, effectively protecting the safety of the compressor unit. The anti-surge control valves with the multistage cage plug and the fixed noise reduction, ANSI class V metal sealing and perfect configuration of actuator accessories, ensure that the compressor does not reach the surge point and that downstream pipeline noise remains within a normal range.
