Temperature is a key physical variable for ensuring quality when producing plastic film. The application of non-contact temperature measurement technology poses the challenge that films with a thickness of less than 1 mm are transparent for standard IR thermometers and so are not measurable. Optris, a leading German manufacturer of non-contact temperature measurement equipment, has developed the CT P3 infrared thermometer, which measures in a narrow spectral range of 3,43 μm, to enable a precise temperature measurement of thinner films such as PE or PP.
Rugged, heat-resistant and good process integration
The Optris CT P3 is a miniaturised and robust pyrometer in a solid casing, suitable for retrofitted parts and OEMs. Without cooling, it can work in environments of up to 75°C, and has protection class IP65. The electronics (420g) are separate from the sensor head (200g) and have easily accessible programming buttons along with an illuminated LCD display. Selection options for the analog outputs are between 0/4-20 mA, 0-5 V, 0-10 V, thermic element version K or J. The digital outputs optionally available are USB, RS-485, RS-232 interface, relay outputs, CAN bus, Profibus DP or Ethernet.

Temperature Measurement
For successful paint cure, irrespective of the paint chemistry being used, there is a critical need to measure and control the temperature of the car body as it travels through the oven. Today, paint ovens are controlled in a sophisticated fashion via thermocouples located in each zone to give constant feedback on the ambient temperature.
