Rockwell Automation and Cisco release security design guidance ahead of Internet of Things World Forum

February 2016 News

Rockwell Automation has published new tested, validated resources with strategic alliance partner Cisco. These resources are aimed at helping the automation industry address the security concerns associated with implementing new technologies and trends like the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

Free, and offered now through a dedicated web page, users will find the latest security best practices, guides, and insights for industrial enterprises to implement networks; all of which follow a defence-in-depth approach that utilises industry standards. These architectures address the dynamic security practices for both information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) – essential in managing risk from the plant to the Connected Enterprise.

“The Connected Enterprise holds the key to unlocking the potential of the Internet of Things to offer the enhanced levels of efficiency and productivity needed to meet the challenges of the rapidly growing global market,” according to Neil Enright, regional sales director, Middle East, Rockwell Automation. “It’s about connecting the people, processes and technology to achieve better productivity, sustainability and economic performance.”

The Middle East is widely recognised as a rapidly emerging market, supported especially by the GCC in its drive for industrial diversification from the traditional oil and gas sector. Enright believes it is an exciting time for the region: “The Middle East is committed to broadening its industrial base at a time when new facilities will give it an opportunity to compete on the world stage if it is able to take advantage of Connected Enterprise principles to embrace the Industrial IoT.”

During the recent Cisco-hosted IoT World Forum at the Dubai World Trade Centre, Rockwell Automation executives highlighted how the scalable implementation of industrial IoT technologies through an integrated control and information system – The Connected Enterprise – delivers the potential of real-time analytics for plant-wide optimisation.
