Integrated monitoring of beverage and package quality

February 2015 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Carbon dioxide concentration, opening torque and fill level are all significant parameters that affect the product quality as noticed by consumers of bottled beverages. The continuous monitoring of these parameters is therefore essential to ensure a constant and repeatable quality of filling. The Steinfurth CPA concept is specially developed to satisfy this demand by improving the measurement workflow processes of these decentralised, and not always optimally monitored, parameters.

The key element of the Steinfurth CPA is the 'Master Module', which acts as central control unit for all the linked devices (slaves). The only pre-condition of the slaves, which could be devices from other manufacturers, is an existing data interface. When this is satisfied, global sample and procedure adjustments for the complete CPA Mini-Lab measuring chain can be executed via the control panel of the master module. This can be done automatically via barcode scanners or manually via the integrated touchscreen. Subsequently, the measurement results of all devices are stored and collected from the internal hard drive of the master module. This enables a central readout and transfer of the measurement data at any time via Ethernet direct into a PC. The Mini-Lab concept develops its benefit by sourcing the quality assurance measuring parameters direct from the filling line. As with all Steinfurth products, the Steinfurth CPA components are constructed with robustness in mind, combined with the automatic, easy and user independent operation.

Keeping an eye on invisible radiation

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
