Fast reacting flow sensor from ASSTech

June 2014 Flow Measurement & Control

Intended for use in water and water mediums, the Jumo Pinos L01 flow sensors offers especially quick reaction times. It can be used for example to check cooling circuits, compressors, pumps and heat exchangers. In addition, the device has application in monitoring leaks, protecting pumps against dry running and in lubricant circuits.

The Pinos L01 is simple to install and does not depend on direction and is easy to operate. Configuration is via an USB interface with a user-friendly setup program. Measured values are given via analogue output and the device can be used for a nominal pressure of up to 25 bar in a flow range of 10 to 150 cm/s.

The process connection is stainless steel with a nominal pipe with of DN 20 to DN 100. Other materials can be used as well. The flow sensor is also available as a flow monitor – the switching point can be set on site. A window opening/closing function is included so that the switching points can be determined for a specific measuring range.

With its robust design that complies with protection type IP65/67, the device is capable of operating in harsh environmental conditions. Reliable operation is guaranteed in ambient temperatures from -25 to 70°C. Measurement medium temperature can range between -25 and 80°C.

The meter operates according to the calorimetric measurement principle using temperature sensors that do not have moving parts. The sensor is submerged in the flowing medium which washes around it. A heating element and a temperature sensor make up the unit. The heating element is continuously supplied with a small amount of electrical energy that heats it. The resulting temperature conditions are measured by the temperature sensor – the faster the liquid flows, the quicker the heating element is cooled.
