NewElec launched the KE relay to meet the requirements of customers seeking to improve the longevity and reliability of both motors and pumps. The relay provides all the standard protection features one would expect for protecting electric motors, but also includes features that protect the pump as well.
Dry run protection: the user may decide to use the motor load current as an indication that the pump is no longer usefully engaged or, in cases where there is little or no substantial drop in current, utilise the more effective power factor measurement method to disengage the pump from service. In addition the product caters for priming time, the user selects the time that is required for the completion of the priming sequence and sets the time the pump should remain pumping when a dry-run condition is identified appropriately.
Incorrect rotation: this KE relay measures the mains voltage of the motor so that if the phase sequence is changed it will prevent the motor from starting.
Start and run stall protection: a must have feature if the pumping medium has a tendency to solidify, or in applications such as sewage works where various types of debris jam the impellor.
Motor jogging protection: once a pump jams most operators try to dislodge the obstructing material by switching the pump on and off in a succession of repeated attempts that impact negatively on the electric motor. The design of the protection relay will limit such operator frustrations by limiting such attempts within the confines of the motor’s thermal capacity, forcing a cooling off period before further attempts can be made.
NewElec believes that pump manufacturers have a vested interest in equipping their pumps with the best possible protection to increase the productive life spans. The company invites interested pump manufacturers to the table to discuss the benefits of its technology.
