Rockwell Automation and its Global Solutions team have received a multi-million dollar order from leading global metals company, Nyrstar Hobart, to replace a distributed control system (DCS) with its PlantPAx process automation system. The new system, to be installed at Nyrstar Hobart’s zinc smelting operation in Australia, incorporates more than 7000 distributed I/O connections in a complex DCS conversion.
Nyrstar Hobart’s Australian facility is one of the world’s largest zinc smelters, with a capacity of 280 000 tonnes. It produces zinc and zinc alloys that are exported primarily to Asia. The order includes project management, application engineering, system cutover engineering, hardware and software.
