Hygienic solutions from ProMinent

August 2010 System Integration & Control Systems Design

The food and beverage industry is traditionally an area with particular high demands on hygiene and its related technologies. This is necessary to maintain the high quality standards and shelf life of the end product, whether it is beer, cheese, lemonade, seafood, water, fruit juice wine salad or vegetables.

ProMinent Fluid Controls specialises in the areas of in-house water management, destruction of bacteria, disinfection, and measurement and control of dosing chemical fluids. The company says it finds solutions for its customers that are suitable in practice for almost all applications in the areas of beverage production and food processing, manufacturing and packaging. It offers systems and solutions from one source for exact and reproducible dosing systems as well as hygiene applications in the entire production area, based on an extensive choice of products and many years’ experience in the food and beverage industry. ProMinent has extensive experience with respect to the measurement and control of pH and ORP. Food and drink additives, which control acidity or alkalinity, affect texture and taste. These pH control agents include citric acid, acetic acid, and some alkalis. It is these chemicals that require careful monitoring and control.

In addition to this, ProMinent’s expertise includes controlling the balance of the potable water used in bottling plants and food processing. A poorly controlled pH can have detrimental effects on the processes disinfection force, which is closely linked to pH. Poor pH balance can lead to little or no disinfection of the process water resulting in poor hygiene, increased costs, product re-calls, resource wastage and lower profits.

ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential) is an essential tool for indicating the relative cleanliness of water and its ability to break down contaminants. ProMinent is well aware of these and other process and industry related issues and can comfortably provide solutions, commissioning, installation and training.
