Jesma has developed a new and more flexible type of weigh feeder to address the increasing demand for continuous weighing in the processing industry. The company says its new weigh feeder addresses what is becoming an increasingly important need in the market.

Abstract

Kevin Preston says in his article that a big area of uncertainty for the process and manufacturing industries is whether they will be faced with a requirement for their weighing systems to be approved in the future. He adds that no one can predict what kind of regulations will be instituted going forward. The consequence of this is that many weighing systems may, at some point, need to be replaced with equipment that is capable of measuring to new levels of accuracy and reliability.

Jesma has responded to this with the introduction of its new modularly designed JesBelt weigh feeder system. It can be installed in the process as a cost effective weigher with a weighing tolerance of ±0,5%. Should the user at a later stage be met with a requirement for approval, the system can easily be upgraded to the class for approved weighing according to MID (OIML R50) with a weighing tolerance of only ±0,25%. Preston says that this way the customer is securing their investment for the future. Also the costs associated with uninstalling and subsequent reinstallation are eliminated.

The weigh feeder is designed for continuous weighing and functions as an intelligent conveyor belt that transports the material while weighing it. Primarily the system is used for measuring the amount of material transported per unit time – hourly for instance – or for measuring how much is being fed into a silo or coating system.

The weigh feeders are used in many different industries. Jesma offers weigh feeder solutions for very wet environments, like those found in abattoirs and fisheries, as well as systems for weighing in very dusty environments, such as ash and cement applications. If required, a self-cleaning transportation system can be implemented to further enhance performance.
