The new Tempcon 300 controller system from Phoenix Contact offers modern control technology with expanded functionality for applications in mechanical engineering and process automation. Adaptable to diverse technical and commercial requirements, it may be used for simple applications such as controlling baking ovens as well as for more complex applications like controlling multizone heating systems in plastic injection machines or blow-moulding machines.
This control system uses a modular inline automation system from Phoenix Contact that allows the flexible configuration of compact controller units for 4 to 30 control zones. The required components - including bus couplers, control units and I/O modules of various granularity - are simply plugged together. Cross wiring occurs automatically. Thus, the user can economically adapt the controller unit to specific applications with a high degree of modularity. Like all Inline components, bus coupler modules are available for operating the modular temperature and process controllers on any of the typical industrial Fieldbus systems including Interbus, Ethernet, Profibus, CANopen, DeviceNet or Modbus.

Temperature Measurement
For successful paint cure, irrespective of the paint chemistry being used, there is a critical need to measure and control the temperature of the car body as it travels through the oven. Today, paint ovens are controlled in a sophisticated fashion via thermocouples located in each zone to give constant feedback on the ambient temperature.

Temperature Measurement
During metal casting, the liquid material is poured into a mould, and after solidification becomes a solid body. Both too-high and too-low casting temperatures can lead to quality defects. The compact Optris PI 05M infrared thermal imaging camera from Instrotech can monitor the casting process.
